Parental Interviews and Direct Assessment of Children Survey (PIDACS)

Parent Interview and Direct Assessments of Children (PIDACS)

The PIDACS is the second portion of research completed by the UEY - Western Nova Scotia initiative. The purpose of PIDACS is to collect data on child development within communities. There are two elements involved in this research component: a direct developmental assessment of grade Primary children from the 2006-07 year, and an interview with the parents of those children.

The PIDACS for UEY Western Nova Scotia began in late March 2007.

Parent Interviews

A total of 444 parents of grade Primary children participated in the interview process. These parents were asked a series of questions regarding the health and safety of their communities, family situation and the use of early learning programs and services.

Direct Assessments

A total of 433 children completed the direct assessments, roughly 50% of all grade Primary children throughout the Annapolis Valley School Regional Board. Three different assessment tools were used to measure the child's early learning and development in three key areas: receptive vocabulary, number knowledge and pre-literacy.

A full report of the PIDACS data for UEY Western Nova Scotia will be available soon.
